If you are struggling with porn and you have an Android phone, look for an app called BULLDOG BLOCKER. It is very effective. It will require you to add an accountability partner on your account. Anytime you try watch porn or go to a porn site, it will stop you from accessing the siren and it will alert your accountability partner what you tried to do. Anytime you try uninstall the app, it will report you to your partner. You will be unable to do anything without your accountability partner knowing. You will have to inform your accountability partner and submit their contacts for approval.
If you have iOS (Apple) you can download EVER ACCOUNTABLE. It’s very good. It also requires you to add an accountability partner and it gives them weekly reviews of all your online activity. It also flags sexually explicit content instantly. You can also try VICTORY BY COVENANT EYES or VICTORY SHIELD. Both are by the same company. For PCs and laptops, you can try Cold Turkey and Canopy.
Many of these apps will require you to pay a monthly or one-time subscription. Don’t chicken out. Someone I was helping this year told me that they couldn’t get the apps because they required payment. Yet this same person pays for their Netflix, pays for their Internet, and pays for online games. They save up for concerts but cannot stack up for their eternity. Don’t expect cheap victory after indulging in an expensive habit. The Word of God says this in Proverbs 4:7 “Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” (NIV).
As you pursue this, please also understand that a heart that is not repentant cannot be restored by an app. Ultimately, you must decide to be done with sin. You must want to be free as badly as you want to breathe. So pay attention to things that concern your progress. You don’t steer a ship by wishing. All hands on deck.
Finally, you must know that it is possible to be free from the addiction to pornography. It is not only possible, but it is also necessary.
It is necessary because porn contributes to men being sexual predators and perverts. Timothy E. Bleecker and Sarah K. Murnen, did a study on the relationship between porn and men’s perception of women. Their study was titled “Fraternity Membership, the Display of Degrading Sexual Images of Women, and Rape Myth Acceptance.” What they found correlates with the work of Jeanette Norris, from The Journal of Sex Research. Jeanette’s article was titled “Social Influence Effects on Responses to Sexually Explicit Material Containing Violence.” It empirically found that men who consume porn and sexually explicit content develop increasing positive attitudes toward rape. In short, porn is one of the main breeding grounds for today’s rapists, pedophiles and perverts.
It is necessary because our LORD Jesus Christ warned of the eternal consequences of weak-willed men who are enslaved to their sexual impulses.
Matthew 5:28-29 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (NIV)
It is necessary because men since time immemorial have showed us the path. Heed the resolution of our brother, Job:
Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman.” (NIV)
It is necessary because God wants to raise a generation of godly men who rein in their sensual desires. Such a godly man will inevitably be hated by this world, for he upholds what God loves and abhors what this world praises.
It is necessary because it takes tough men to stand up against evil men. And if godly men do not arise, then wicked men who are enslaved to their impulses will abound. They will praise what God hates. They will mock righteousness. They will call good evil and they will call evil good. They will do the bidding of darkness. Jordan B. Peterson in his book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos aptly said “If you think tough men are dangerous, wait until you see what weak men are capable of.”
So not only is it possible to be free from sin’s clutches, it is also necessary. God is recruiting sons. And it starts by understanding that the Son of God became a man so that men could become sons of God.
